Celebrating 30 years of Scarborough Jazz!
Yes, we are understandably feeling very proud. Not many jazz clubs can claim to have promoted jazz fifty nights a year for thirty years. Dennis Hitch, Bob Walker and Mike Gordon, the original trio, were just looking for somewhere to play and that’s how Scarborough Jazz started.
So we are going to celebrate.
Professional film maker Dennis Lowe has made an outstanding thirteen minute film about Scarborough Jazz which also has some shots of the jazz festival. Dennis is famous for his special visual effects in ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’ and ‘The English Patient’. Many thanks to him for giving his time and skills so generously. We are going to have a very special night at the Cask on Wednesday 4th June. Alan Barnes, probably Scarborough’s favourite jazz musician who has won more national jazz awards than any other player, will be joined by the world famous accordionist Jack Emblow. It will be a night to remember!
And then on Saturday 14th June we are going to have a celebration at the Spa’s Vita Dome. There will be no charge for the band, the terrific Zoe Gilby Quartet - which will be provided by Scarborough Jazz. There will be a superior finger buffet at £15 a head.
Tickets will soon be available at the Cask but contact Sarah Dyson if you would like to join us for a great night out.
Thanks for all your support. Enjoy the film and we hope to see you at our two celebratory events.
