Ben Lowman
Six months after his second appearance saxophonist Ben Lowman is back at Scarborough Jazz Club on January 11th.
A new favourite with our audience, Ben, who majors on tenor sax but also plays alto, flute and clarinet, is one of the rising stars on the northern jazz scene, playing melodic, rich toned, fluent improvisations on classic jazz and bebop standards as well as his own compositions.
Ben's musical influences include Django Reinhardt, Oscar Peterson and Cannonball Adderley. Since graduating from Leeds College of Music with 1st class honours six years ago he has been honing his skills as a performer, arranger, composer and educator, playing with acclaimed groups such as the Simon Read Octet, Yoruba and Matt Roberts Sextet as well as his own Django Project and spending time in a West End theatre pit orchestra.
In addition to being an emerging major talent Ben has a nice rapport with his audience as he introduces each piece.
Tonight he'll be accompanied by the Mike Gordon trio.
