Blind Monk Trio
The Trio have caused quite a stir over the past couple of years in the Northern jazz scene, putting a fresh spin on the sax/bass/drums trio format, with influences from the whole history of the genre (Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, FLY) blended with alternative rock beats, dark cinematic grooves and eastern folk. Think John Coltrane meets Led Zeppelin.
No shortage of positive reviews either: "Hugo Harrison (bass) and Johnny Hunter (drums) provide intelligent and highly musical support at all times, but it's Bob Whittaker's sax playing that shoulders most of the workload and his big, bold tone and flowing lines prove more than capable of holding the attention. With quirky and humourous original tunes, this was the perfect gig." (London Jazz News). "The spirit of Thelonious Monk with rock’n’roll attitude." "Blind Monk Trio entertain, amuse and stun the audience with their inventive compositions and arrangements."
Come prepared for some original musical entertainment.
