New national competition for young jazz talent
UK Jazz Radio announces new 'Young Performers Award'
UK Jazz Radio, the dedicated jazz music internet radio station broadcasting worldwide around the clock, has announced the inauguration of a new Young Performer of the Year Award aimed at promoting live jazz to a young audience and to support young jazz performers in the early years of their career.
The competition is in three categories comprising 'Best performer', 'Best group of performers' and 'Best composition of original music.' Entries can only be submitted by jazz musicians under the age of 23 as at 10th July 2010.
A large number of entrants are anticipated so a pre-heat selection process at venues in Birmingham, London and Cardiff will enable the organisers to create the list of finalists to appear live on stage before a judging panel of distinguished jazz professionals chaired by the respected educationalist and jazz musician, Frank Griffith.
Brian Soundy, Music Director of UK Jazz Radio said: "A major element of the station's mission is to develop young musicians, offering showcase opportunities, supporting their CD launches and encouraging them in a career in jazz."
"This Award seeks to encourage young talent and the station will support the winner with on-air and on-line promotion plus a paid booking for a major UK jazz festival. Success will certainly give the winner's career a positive boost." Brian added.
