Jamil Sheriff Quartet
Scarborough Jazz Club presents the Jamil Sheriff Quartet. This gig was postponed from last year and we're very pleased to get them now.
Jamil, who is the Curriculum Leader for Jazz at Leeds College of Music, is known throughout the UK Jazz scene for his lyrical and rhythmic approach to original music and has been described by The Guardian as "someone who has made a real difference to the vitality of the jazz scene in the North of England".
His first three albums of original music received national and international accolades and tonight's performance is promoting the debut album by the Jamil Sheriff Trio, Places Like This. Released last October, this is a collection of exciting music with Dave Walsh (drums) and Pete Turner (bass) that shows off these extremely accomplished musicians. The Quartet also features Josh Kemp, London-based saxophonist who has been described as "embodying the spirit that sustains jazz no matter which way the weather vane of vogue is pointing".
