Gaz Hughes Trio
We welcome the Gaz Hughes Trio. Gaz is one of the UK’s top drummers with a style deeply rooted in the bebop era of Art Blakey, Max Roach and Kenny Clarke. Known for his dynamic ensemble playing, Gaz blends subtlety and energy to create compelling performances.
As a bandleader Gaz is best known for his work with the trio, featuring the unbelievably good Andrzej Baranek on piano and Ed Harrison on double bass. Inspired by the Ray Brown school of thought, the trio delivers joyful, energetic performances with uplifting interplay. Together they demonstrate the power of swing through the classic piano trio format à la Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell et al. Their repertoire includes original compositions and sophisticated arrangements of jazz standards.
