Alex Oldknow Band
After the post-Festival lull, on October 7th we welcome the Alex Oldknow Band, who play tribute to guitar legend Grant Green. Between 1961-65 Green appeared on more Blue Note Records, as leader and sideman, than any other musician. In the 1970s he embraced the influence of soul and funk, applying his bebop chops to new rhythms, creating a series of propulsive recordings and blistering live albums that today have a cult following.
Playing a mix of music from both these eras, the band is led by guitarist Alex Oldknow, who played at the club’s 40th anniversary celebrations at The Spa and was recently showcased as a Leeds Conservatoire emerging artist in 2025.
On saxophone is Eliot Richards - a regular member of vocalist Kate Peter's ensembles as well as leading his own quartet. Organist George MacDonald is a mainstay of the riotous Ferg's Imaginary Big Band and drummer Richard Moulton is a stalwart of the Leeds jazz scene.
