Pete Lyons
Saxophonist Pete Lyons is one of our regulars at Scarborough Jazz Club and we’re pleased to have him back. Pete has been an integral part of the Sheffield jazz scene for over thirty years, both as a player and as a tutor leading improvisation workshops for the highly successful Sheffield Jazz Workshop, now in its 40th year, which was awarded Jazz Educator of the Year by Jazz Yorkshire in 2012.
Pete has an engaging, gutsy, swinging styles with influences from Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh and current New York tenor saxophonist Rich Perry.
His playing over the years has embraced a variety of contemporary and experimental music, with a wide breadth of styles in his compositions for larger groups, but his small band preferences revolve around an interest in improvised lines in more standard settings such as tonight’s, with Mark Gordon (keyboards), Bob Walker (bass) and Tom Townsend (drums).
